What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid occurs in the human body, for example in the skin and cartilage tissue, and is the most important component of the synovial fluid. It is responsible for the tough consistency of the synovium and thus enables its shock-absorbing and lubricating properties. In osteoarthritis, there is a decrease in the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid, as a result of which its protective function on the joint is reduced.
